A Single Applicant Journey for DBS & RTW

Spotlite integrates Right to Work (RTW) and DBS checks into one seamless process, including DBS Digital Identity checks.

Remote & In-Person RTW Options

Remote: We process British and Irish passports and Home Office Share Codes remotely.  
In-Person: For applicants without the right documents or a smartphone, your agents can scan List A and List B paper documents face-to-face.

Extending RTW for DBS Checks

Our RTW journeys extend to capture DBS information, creating a unique, simple, single journey for Digital ID, RTW, and DBS.

Handling Applicants Without Photo ID

If an applicant requiring DBS does not have Photo ID, we use Open Banking to validate identity, ensuring the High Level of Assurance required by DBS. This removes the need to send applicants to the Post Office for ID verification.

DBS Application Processing & Results

We submit the application to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for processing.

Applicant receives the DBS certificate by post

We will notify you if there is anything reported on the certificate.

What is a DBS Check?

A criminal record disclosure, more commonly referred to as a criminal record or DBS check, is a check of a person’s criminal record issued by the Disclosure and Baring Service (DBS) in England and Wales.

DBS checks are available in three levels, basic, standard and enhanced.

Basic

Who can have it? Any employer or individual needing a basic criminal record check.
What does it show? Reports unspent convictions and conditional cautions from the Police National Computer (PNC).
Eligibility: Available for any role in the UK — applicants or employers can apply directly.
Typical industries: Retail, hospitality, logistics and transport, construction, aviation, office roles, self-employed professionals.
Turnaround time: Usually 48-72 hours (subject to police processing times).

Standard

Who needs it? Employees in regulated roles where spent convictions may be considered relevant.
What does it show? Reports unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings, and spent convictions and cautions subject to filtering.
Eligibility: Can only be requested by an employer, and only for roles where consideration of spent convictions is relevant for the role.
Typical industries: Finance, law, security, healthcare administration.
Turnaround time: Usually 48-72 hours (subject to police processing times).

Enhanced

Who needs it? Individuals working directly with children or vulnerable adults in regulated roles.
What does it show? Everything included in a Standard DBS check, plus… - Additional information from local police records in the county of residence. - (If applicable) A check of the Adults’ and/or Children’s Barred List for regulated activity roles.
Eligibility: Can only be requested by an employer. Roles that involve regular contact with children or vulnerable adults are normally eligible for this level of check.
Typical industries: Schools, hospitals, care homes, social work, voluntary organisations.
Turnaround time: Usually 48-72 hours (subject to police processing times).
