Secure data to highest regulatory standards, monitor compliance and detect fraud more easily. Reduce the data you’re handling and storing.

What is
Smart Data?

Smart data involves analysing data directly at its source in real time, without needing to first collect and store the data in an unwieldy central database. The stream of data can be processed continuously and as soon as the data is generated. Smart data schemes facilitate the secure sharing of a customer’s data upon their request, with authorised third-party providers.

Both service providers and users get all the benefits of Smart Data, making decisions and personalising services using accurate information, through responsible and compliant data management with inclusion at its core.

Data Use and Access Bill

Following the 2024 General Election, the new Data Bill has been proposed. The Bill is set to accelerate the pace of adoption of smart data technologies, positioning the UK alongside other international initiatives like the EU Digital Identity framework and Singapore’s Singpass. As with these international schemes, Digital Wallets are a prominent example capability at the heart of smart data usage. Much like a physical wallet, digital wallets store credentials and documents, allowing individuals to selectively share their data with various organisations.

“Smart Data is the secure sharing of customer data, upon the customer’s (business or consumer) request, with authorised third-party providers (ATPs) who can enhance the customer data with broader, contextual ‘business’ data. These ATPs provide the customer with innovative services to improve decision making and engagement in a market.”

Industry examples of Smart Data

SafeGuarden in practice: Enabling communities and building trust through safe data sharing

Individuals needing services from multiple agencies often face the frustrating challenge of filling out numerous forms and repeatedly sharing their personal story. This repetitive process can lead to misunderstandings and gaps in service provision.

SafeGuarden Data simplifies this by providing a secure, centralised wallet for each individual, where all relevant information can be stored and accessed. Controlled by a designated guardian, this solution ensures that service providers have the necessary data at their fingertips, reducing redundancy and improving access to essential services.

Not for profit organisations operating in local communities are increasingly challenged with mobilising volunteers to support campaigns. People want to volunteer but caring responsibilities and shift patterns mean they may not be able to commit to a day and time. The ideal is to have a pool of resources to draw on when required.

Most not for profits can’t afford this but a community scheme that enables verification and credentialling of local people would provide such a pool. Sign up once, get certified with the scheme, reuse credentials stored in a wallet with other organisations using a link or QR code. No more forms, no more wait time for DBS checks.
